March 2, 2023

On Sunday 5th March The Malta Equidrome will be hosting a special horse race title in the premier category.  This is the first-ever edition of the Southern Region Local Councils’ Race.

This race is open to the equidrome top category horses.  Each one of the 12 horses will be partnered with one of the 12 local councils forming part of the Southern Regional Council, which this year is also the Southern Region of Culture 2023.  This event is being held with the support of the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts & Local Government.

A Press conference was held on the 21st of February at the Malta Equidrome to announce this event and pair the horses with the respective Local Council.  The order in which the horses are to race on the 5th of March was also established through a poll on the same day.  Present for this press conference was the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for the local councils Hon.
