With the title of Southern Region of Culture 2023, apart from showcasing who we are, and what makes us through our cultural expressions this year will invest in new initiatives that seek to increase a culture of community participation.
The region is full of cultural activity in the way we live, starting from the traditional Maltese loaf of bread in Qormi, to the elements of dialect in the way we speak. The Southern Region showcases a number of old trades, and artisanship which will be given due diligence throughout this year as the Southern Region of Culture 2023.
During this year, events targeting projects that are no longer being featured will also be a driving force for our celebrations. Other events that are already in place will be strengthened and highlighted. All of this will be done in collaboration with the 12 local councils within our region with the ultimate air of empowering citizens to live and breathe culture.
With all this in mind The Southern Region of Culture 2023 would like to emphasise 4 main pillars during this year. Hence the concepts of the events being held will revolve around:
- Shared Cultural Landscapes
- The Right Seed for the Right Pot
- Participatory Cultures
- Regional Futures
